Staging Old Masters, Former Prisoners Perform at The Pulitzer
Prison Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization that uses the performing arts to change the lives of people inside the criminal justice system. Late founder, Agnes Wilcox, believed that acting, memorizing lines and internalizing stories helps prisoners process emotions and get ready for life after incarceration.
PPA and The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts collaborated for a series of performances titled Staging Old Masters. The actors, who are former inmates, spent six weeks working with Wilcox, using the current Old Masters exhibit as source material for a series of short theatrical works.
